The great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day observed in Seoul

The great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day was observed in a befitting manner on 21 February 2024 at the Embassy with the participation of expatriate Bangladeshis and the Embassy officials and their family members.


On the first hour of the day, the Ambassador of Bangladesh to the Republic of Korea H.E. Mr. Delwar Hossain paid homage to the language martyrs by placing floral wreaths at Shaheed Minar (Martyrs’ Monument) established at the Multicultural Park in Ansan city. In the morning, Ambassador Delwar Hossain hoisted the national flag at half-mast at the Embassy premises with the presence of Embassy officials and the expatriate Bangladeshis.


In the afternoon, the Embassy organized discussion programme. The programme started with the observance of a one-minute silence to honor the language martyrs followed by offering of special prayer for the salvation of the departed souls of language martyrs and for the continued peace and prosperity of the country. Following this, the Embassy officers read out the messages of the Hon’ble President, the Hon’ble Prime Minister and the Hon’ble Foreign Minister. A documentary outlining the history and significance of the day was screened. It was followed by a discussion on the significance of the great Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day.


In his remarks, Ambassador Delwar Hossain paid a rich tribute to the memory of the martyrs of the language movement. He also paid homage to the memory of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman who had steered the language movement. He shed light on the historical background and significance of the great Language movement. He called upon all to uphold the dignity and respect of the mother tongue.
